Bekah Brunstetter wants The Five-Star Weekend to keep going after its first run, and she says she would like to do it with the same 5-star Weekend cast. The showrunner said she is already thinking past Elin Hilderbrand’s novel, not just inside it, as Peacock streams the series now.
That matters because the adaptation has arrived at the exact moment viewers are looking for the show and its cast. Jennifer Garner stars as Hollis Shaw, a food influencer who pulls together a girls’ weekend at her Nantucket home six months after her husband dies in a car accident. The setup gives the series a clear emotional engine: grief, friendship and the uneasy way life keeps moving after a loss.
Brunstetter has framed that as part of the appeal. She said there is so much change in people’s 40s and 50s that it cannot be reduced to menopause or perimenopause, adding that big life changes continue to happen. That is the terrain The Five-Star Weekend is built to explore, which helps explain why Peacock’s version is broader than a straightforward page-to-screen retelling of the 2023 novel.
The cast reflects that wideness. Chloë Sevigny plays Tatum McKenzie, Hollis’ childhood best friend. Regina Hall plays Dru-Ann Jones, her college roommate turned sports agent. D’Arcy Carden appears as Brooke Kirtley, with Rob Huebel as Brooke’s husband. Gemma Chan plays Gigi Ling, a commercial pilot. Harlow Jane plays Caroline, Hollis’ daughter, and Timothy Olyphant plays Jack, Hollis’ first love. Josh Hamilton appears in flashbacks as Matthew, Hollis’ late husband.
That cast list also points to the show’s built-in fault lines. Gigi arrives looking like just another friend for the weekend, but her real reason for being there is tied to her affair with Matthew. In a story about women gathering around one another, the series keeps circling the private damage that sits under the polished surface.
Brunstetter has not said how many more seasons she wants, and Peacock has not publicly committed to any. What she has made plain is simpler and more important: she wants the story to move beyond the book, and if the streamer agrees, the 5-star Weekend cast could stay together long after this first season ends.
