Marvel released the first official cast art for Avengers: Doomsday this week, and the image puts nearly all of the film’s major characters in one frame. Chris Evans is back as Steve Rogers, shown in a black T-shirt and holding Mjolnir, while Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson Captain America appears alongside Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.
The reveal is the first official look at how Marvel is trying to assemble this crossover, and it arrives as promotion for the film starts to trickle out before any full-scale trailer. The cast art also includes The Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts, Thor, Ant-Man, Shang-Chi, Shuri and M’Baku, plus FOX X-Men names such as Professor X and Gambit, giving the project the shape of one of the biggest ensemble films Marvel has ever mounted.
That scale is exactly why the missing names stand out. Captain Marvel, Vision, Doctor Strange, Hawkeye and Kate Bishop are not in the image, even as the lineup already stretches across old and new corners of the MCU. Professor X’s presence is especially notable because he has died three times, which makes the film’s use of legacy characters feel less like a tidy reunion than a deliberate reset of expectations.
There is also no clean in-story explanation in the image itself for why Evans is back as Steve Rogers in that costume, or why Downey is playing Doctor Doom. Marvel is not answering those questions yet, and the cast art leaves them hanging on purpose. Feige has at least pointed to one clear role in the film, saying Yelena is being given a big role, which suggests the ensemble is still being balanced rather than fully revealed.
For now, the cast art does what a first official image is supposed to do: it confirms the lineup, sharpens the gaps and sends fans back to old concept art from the original Kang Dynasty storyline while they wait for the next piece of footage. The trailer has not arrived, and until it does, this image is the closest thing to a map Marvel has given for Avengers: Doomsday.
