Kristin Cavallari says she makes her three children fly coach while she takes first class, a rule she says is meant to teach them that money has value and work comes before want. She said the lesson matters now because her children are old enough to understand the difference.
The comments came on the July 7 episode of Aspire with Emma Grede, where Cavallari said her kids do not just get whatever they want. If they want something, she said, they have to work for it. She added that she is hyper-aware they are growing up in a fortunate situation, which is exactly why she wants the arrangement to feel real to them rather than automatic.
Cavallari said the rule extends beyond travel. Last summer, she said, her boys created their own little businesses, including one washing people’s windows and another washing garbage cans. That, she said, helps reinforce the point: “This is my money and this is not your money.”
But Cavallari also drew a line between teaching discipline and building a family life around punishment. She said she has structured her life and business around prioritizing her children, and that there is no one size fits all for being a business woman and a mother. The balance she describes is less about withholding and more about making sure her kids understand what is theirs to earn.
Her three children — Camden Jack, Jaxon and Saylor — are the ones she said ride in coach, while she sits in first class. Cavallari has also said she wants her children to make their own decision about social media, a reminder that the travel rule is part of a broader effort to give them boundaries without taking away choice. For now, though, the answer to whether the coach-versus-first-class rule changes from trip to trip appears to be no: she says it is there because she believes it is good for them.
