Jade Harlow is headed to The Young and the Restless in a recurring role, with her first appearance set for Monday, August 10. She will play Marie Kirkland, a new character arriving in Genoa City with the promise of a fresh start and the weight of a complicated past.
The casting gives the show a new thread to pull at right away, because Marie is being introduced as someone trying to begin again while carrying history that has not been spelled out. That kind of split often matters more than a simple arrival: it tells viewers to watch not just for who she is now, but for what is about to surface.
For Harlow, the move brings her back to daytime with a résumé that already runs through Passions, Days of our Lives and The Bay. She got her break in 2000 as Jessica Bennett on Passions, after replacing Mary Elizabeth Winstead in the role, and stayed until 2003. Years later, she played Sheryl Connors on Days of our Lives, where she screen-tested alongside Jen Lilley and Chrishell Stause.
Harlow has also spent the past 10 years as Lianna Ramos on The Bay, a run that turned into trophy hardware as well as longevity. She won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Performance by a Lead Actress in a Digital Drama Series for the show, and she also won Emmys in 2015 and 2016 as a producer on its Outstanding Digital Daytime Drama Series wins. Beyond daytime, she has appeared in Criminal Minds: Evolution, Christmas on the Ranch, FBI: International and Second Chances.
Her path into the genre still comes back to the same kind of instinct that got her noticed in the first place. In a 2023 interview, Harlow said she did not know much about Passions when she auditioned, but the character breakdown — “has not yet discovered boys or makeup” — made her think Jessica Bennett was a late bloomer. She dressed like a tomboy and got a callback. That kind of quick read on a role is what soaps have always rewarded, and it is why Marie Kirkland should not be treated as a throwaway arrival.
The unanswered part is the one the show is clearly banking on: what exactly sits inside Marie Kirkland’s past, and how long will it take before Genoa City starts pressing on it? Harlow will give viewers the first answer on August 10, but the real story is whether Marie’s fresh start lasts long enough to stay fresh.
