Dee Valladares is the new face in the Big Brother season 28 house. She was revealed Friday on Big Brother: Unlocked as the replacement for Rachel Reilly, and she stepped into the backyard wearing prehistoric mammoth fur.
The reveal landed the same day readers were already looking for Big Brother Live Feeds updates, because the cast change had become the story after Thursday's premiere ended with Julie Chen Moonves saying the search for Rachel's replacement would continue. On Friday, that search ended with Valladares, a Survivor 45 winner who also competed on MTV's The Challenge: Vets & New Threats, joining Rick Devens as the second Survivor 50 player added to the cast.
Valladares did not sound interested in simply filling a slot. She said she wanted to be the first person to win Survivor and Big Brother, a line that carries its own built-in challenge: if no one has done it yet, then the claim is still up for grabs. She now walks into a house that already includes reality competition veterans Angela Murray and Jason De Puy, with Rick Devens tying Big Brother season 28 to Survivor 50 at the same time.
What the show did not explain is why Reilly was replaced after the premiere, and the version of events around the handoff was dressed up with fiction rather than a real-world reason. That leaves the cast change clear and the cause opaque, which is exactly the kind of gap viewers notice when a franchise turns a late swap into a spectacle.
For now, the answer to the most important question is simple: Valladares is in, Reilly is out, and Big Brother season 28 has already made its first major adjustment before the season has really settled. The next thing to watch is whether Valladares turns that entrance into the kind of game that makes her bold claim more than a line delivered on Friday.
