Twin Temple said Charley Crockett removed the duo from two upcoming shows on his Age of the Ram tour, pulling them from July 14 in Troutdale, Ore., and July 18 in Paso Robles, Calif. The change came after the duo said on Wednesday, July 8, that they would not be able to perform for fans next week as planned.
That matters because the removal landed in the middle of a summer run Crockett had already lined up earlier this year, and it affects two specific opening slots that had been announced in advance. By Friday morning, July 10, a spokesperson for Crockett had forwarded his statement to Billboard, and Twin Temple's name was no longer on the itinerary for those dates.
Alexandra James and Zachary James said they were told the decision came down to their Satanic imagery, and Crockett explained it in plain terms: “I thought they were like Black Sabbath, but they ain't. Not today, Satan.” The line drew a sharp boundary between the image he says he expected and the act he decided not to keep on the bill.
That gap is the story's friction point. Twin Temple describes itself as a self-proclaimed satanic doo wop duo, and its Instagram bio reads “SATANIC DOO WOP EST 1666,” with songs that include “Lucifer, My Love,” “Sex Magick,” “Burn Your Bible,” “Let's Have a Satanic Orgy” and “The Devil (Didn't Make Me Do It).” Crockett's complaint was not that he discovered the imagery only after booking them; it was that, after apparently thinking of them as a Black Sabbath-style reference point, he changed course anyway.
The consequence is straightforward. Twin Temple says it will not play the two shows as planned, and the group is now left off the tour listing while Crockett's summer run continues with other opening acts. The duo's next announced stop is Danzig in September, but for these July dates, the answer is already decided.
