Fast food chains are marking National French Fry Day on Friday, July 10, with a spread of fry deals that run from a free medium fries to buy-one-style offers and app-only giveaways. Some of the best-known names in the sector are using the day to pull customers into their apps and rewards programs.
For many customers, the catch is in the fine print. McDonald's is offering rewards members a free medium fries with a purchase of $1 or more through the McDonald's app, while Chick-fil-A One members can get a free medium-sized waffle fries by playing Spot the Cows in the app from July 7 through July 14. The Chick-fil-A reward appears in the rewards tab, and it can be redeemed through a mobile order or by scanning the QR code in store. In each case, the offer is limited to one medium waffle fries reward per person.
Other chains are leaning on similar limits. Rewards members can get a free regular fries with a $3 minimum purchase through the app or website from July 10 through July 12, and Jack Pack members can get a free order of fries of any size on July 10 with a minimum purchase of $1. Five Guys is offering one free Little Fry with the purchase of a burger, hot dog or sandwich through the app or website, and customers have to enter FRYDAY26 at checkout. Sheetz is offering one free bag of fries from July 10 through July 16 with a $10 purchase through the app under the OFFERZ tab.
Whataburger is taking a simpler route for rewards members, offering a free medium fries with no purchase necessary, redeemable online or in the app. Customers can also get free cheese fries with any order by using CHEESY from July 10 through July 12. The pattern across the day is clear: National French Fry Day is less a single freebie than a short window when chains trade fries for purchases, app downloads and loyalty sign-ups, and the deals disappear on different dates depending on the restaurant.
The holiday itself falls on July 10, which is why the offers are clustered now and why some begin a few days earlier or last several days beyond it. That makes the timing important for anyone hoping to claim a deal before the rewards tab refreshes, the promo code expires or the purchase minimum changes the price of a “free” fry.
