McDonald's is bringing BT21 to Happy Meals at participating U.S. restaurants starting July 14, opening a limited-time promotion that puts 10 collectible toys in play. Each Happy Meal will include one toy at random.

The launch is the first time BT21 toys have been offered in the U.S., which is why fans and collectors are watching the rollout closely. Seven of the toys feature individual characters on a ring clip designed to attach to bags or keyrings, while the lineup also includes VAN, a full BT21 group toy on a ship and a poster with stickers.

The promotion arrives with no new food items attached to it. Instead, the draw is the character set itself and the digital add-on: scanning the QR code printed on the Happy Meal box opens a experience at HappyMeal.com where fans can mix music and animate the BT21 characters.

BT21 first launched in 2017 and last appeared in McDonald's Happy Meals in 2023, when the promotion was limited to Asia. This U.S. run is different because it moves the characters into a new market without a public end date, and McDonald's has said supplies are limited.

That leaves the real question less about what is coming and more about how long it will last. The company has not announced when the U.S. promotion will end, so customers who want KOYA, RJ, SHOOKY, MANG, CHIMMY, TATA, COOKY or the other toys will need to move quickly while participating restaurants still have them.

BT21 was developed by BTS members in collaboration with LINE FRIENDS, and the characters map to individual BTS members, with RM represented by KOYA, Jimin by CHIMMY and V by TATA. VAN stands for ARMY, the group's worldwide fanbase. McDonald's previously partnered with BTS on a TinyTAN Happy Meal, and the 2021 BTS Meal reached more than 50 countries with more than 11.5 million social mentions, showing how fast this kind of tie-in can spread.
