Shrinking got its biggest Emmy haul yet on Wednesday, landing 10 nominations for its third season and giving the Apple TV series a stronger awards showing than the seven it managed for Season 2. Michael J. Fox was among the names called, earning a guest actor nomination for his turn as a patient with Parkinson's.
Jason Segel, Harrison Ford, Michael Urie and Jessica Williams were all repeated nominees, keeping the show in the conversation across its core cast. Ford is still searching for his first Emmy, while Williams made it 3-for-3 with nominations for playing therapist Gaby. The show now has 18 Emmy nominations in all, but still no wins.
That total matters because the latest round was supposed to be the moment another supporting performance could break through. Candice Bergen had been expected to add a guest actress nomination for playing Derek's mother, but voters went another way and filled the category with five actresses from Hacks, plus Betty Gilpin from Widow's Bay and Jamie Lee Curtis from The Bear. Ted McGinley also missed out for playing Jimmy's neighbor Derek, leaving Shrinking with a strong overall tally but a few obvious holes in the list.
Fox's nomination also carries its own weight beyond the series. It adds to his 18 career Emmy nominations and puts him in a category where the competition remains stacked, including Martin Short, Steve Carell, Matthew Rhys and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. For Shrinking, the result is simple: the show is no longer waiting for a breakthrough nomination day. It has the nominations. What it still does not have is a win, and that is the next number the cast will be chasing.
