Denis Villeneuve and Timothée Chalamet unveiled the new trailer for Dune: Part Three in Los Angeles, and the film’s final chapter now looks less like a victory lap than a warning. Chalamet returns as Paul Atreides, but the footage shows him ruling as Emperor and staring down a future he says he cannot see.
The trailer was also shown in a global Imax fan event simulcast in Chicago, Dallas, Toronto, Montreal, London, Berlin, Mexico City and Abu Dhabi, giving fans their first broad look at Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures’ latest push behind the trilogy. The footage will later play ahead of Imax 70mm screenings of The Odyssey, keeping the new material in front of moviegoers as the next release cycle builds.
That timing matters because this is not just another preview. The third installment takes place 17 years after the events of Dune Part Two and draws from Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah, a story built around the consequences of Paul’s rule rather than his rise. Villeneuve called the film his most personal and said it is more action-packed and tense than the earlier entries, with the first film more contemplative and the second functioning as a war movie.
The trailer makes the power struggle plain. Robert Pattinson appears as Scytale, a shapeshifter who wants to dethrone the Emperor, and he says the plan is to strike the core of imperial power and force regime change. Paul speaks of forgiveness even as the threat closes in, while Zendaya’s Chani appears in a relationship now strained by Paul’s marriage to Princess Irulan and by her wish for a child.
Villeneuve also brings Duncan Idaho back as a ghola, sent as a gift to Paul by Scytale, a move that turns a familiar face into part of the trap. Paul’s line at the end, “Forgive me for all I’ve done,” lands less like an appeal for mercy than the final beat of a ruler who knows the costs of holding power. The trailer does not give a release date, and that is now the central unknown hanging over a film that has already made its tone clear.
