When the follower asked how Biles and Taylor Swift had even spoken to each other, the gymnast answered: “Remember this,” followed by, “I only show ya’ll what I want ya’ll to know.”
The exchange landed because it came only days after Biles posted wedding photos on July 6, including shots of the couple in coordinating maroon outfits. Biles wore a textured halter-neck gown with a half train, while Owens was dressed in black dress pants, a white button-down shirt and a crushed velvet jacket. In her caption, she called it “The perfect love story,” and added, “followed by the perfect nighTT.”
That post put Biles back in the middle of a celebrity guest-list moment that drew scrutiny online, even though she and Owens had already been shown to move in overlapping circles with other high-profile names. Biles and Swift are not strangers simply because they do not publicly map out every connection they have; the point of her reply was that social media offers only a sliver of what she chooses to share, not a full record of who she knows or when she has spoken to them.
The comments also landed against a sharper backdrop. About one month earlier, Biles said on Instagram Stories that she had almost died from an undisclosed medical emergency, that almost dying was not on her bingo card earlier that week, and that it was one of the scariest experiences of her life. She said Owens was in Indy for practices when it happened, and later wrote that she had been in bed resting that week while her close circle checked in, visited and sent flowers.
That is what gives the wedding exchange its edge: Biles was not just answering curiosity about a celebrity invitation, she was setting a boundary after a health scare that had already pushed her to be more careful about what she reveals.
