Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds did not show up for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding on July 3, and the missing guests immediately fed talk that the friendship between Swift and Lively has cooled for good. The couple was absent from the Madison Square Garden ceremony even as roughly 1,000 people packed in, including Selena Gomez, Bradley Cooper and Jay-Z.
The absence matters because Lively was not just any friend on the outside of the guest list. Taylor Swift and Blake Lively’s bond started in 2015, after Lively posted a L’Oréal campaign photo that nodded to Swift’s Bad Blood video, and the two later spent time together in Australia. Swift also became godmother to Lively and Reynolds’ children, which made the wedding snub hard to read as anything but personal.
Maria “Ria” Ciuffo pushed that reading even further on Chicks in the Office, saying Swift and Lively were on the outs. “She must really, really be upset with her for her to not be invited,” she said, adding, “They are not friends. They are donezo. Couldn’t be more done.” She also said, “Those kids are gonna need a new godmother.”
The break, if that is what it is, did not come out of nowhere. Justin Baldoni filed a countersuit in January accusing Lively, Reynolds and their publicist of trying to tank his career, after Lively had already sued him for reputation damage and more. Rumors quickly followed that the legal fight had strained Swift and Lively’s friendship, and one report said Swift wants to be around people she trusts and who bring her peace.
That is where the tension sits now: the old closeness is not being denied, but the present no longer matches it. A source said Swift and Lively really were close, then said the friendship is not something Swift thinks will be fixed. Another put it more bluntly: as far as Swift is concerned, the friendship is done. Lively and Reynolds were in Lake Placid on July 2 while their daughter Betty competed in a horse show, but by the next day they were still not on the guest list, and that is the clearest sign yet that this rift is not a passing one.
For now, the unanswered question is not whether the wedding was crowded enough to hide their absence. It is whether Swift and Lively will ever be seen together again in any setting that suggests the bond survives at all.
