Inde Navarrette has met with X-Men reboot director Jake Schreier, and the discussion has only sharpened the guessing game around Marvel’s next mutant team. Navarrette, 25, also told Nylon that she was interested in a Marvel role, putting her name into a casting conversation that was already moving fast online.

That matters now because Marvel’s new take on the X-Men is being shaped as a fresh, youth-oriented reboot, and Schreier is the person steering it. The project is set to arrive after 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars, which Marvel has previously framed as something of a reset for the MCU, and Kevin Feige has said the company had a “great experience” with Schreier on Thunderbolts and that he has “his pulse on, shall we say, a younger demographic.”

Fans on reddit have already begun doing the rest of the work for Marvel. One wrote that Navarrette is their top choice to play Mystique, another said she would be “GREAT as Mystique,” and a third said she is “Psylocke for me.”

That speculation runs into the same question Marvel is trying to answer with the reboot itself: how young is young enough? Some fans argued that Mystique could still be played by someone older, with one pointing out that the character’s shape-shifting powers make age less important and another suggesting Marvel might want an actress a little older in case the story leans into the mother angle tied to Nightcrawler and Rogue. In other words, the online debate is not just about Navarrette. It is about what kind of X-Men Marvel wants to build after the reset.

What is still missing is the one thing that would turn the chatter into reporting: which X-Men character, if any, Navarrette is actually being considered for. For now, she has confirmed the meeting, the interest, and the opening. Marvel has confirmed the reboot is coming. The rest is the kind of casting talk that can run for months, even as the movie itself is not expected until 2028 at the earliest.
