The Spice Girls have regained full control of Spice World and are planning to bring the 1997 film back to audiences in the not too distant future, Melanie C said.

Melanie C said the movie is not currently on any streaming services, but added that it will be available again because the rights had been spread across a number of owners. “So we’ve had to come together. The Spice Girls now fully own it, so we will be presenting it at some point in hopefully the not too distant future for people to enjoy,” she said.

The update lands as the film heads toward its 30th anniversary next year, a date that has kept reunion talk alive around the group. Melanie C said the band still hopes to reunite to mark the milestone and that discussions are continuing, but she was clear that nothing is in the works in time for the anniversary.

That leaves the immediate question less about a celebration than about timing. The group owns the film again, but the next step appears to be a business one first: sorting the trademark, the merchandise and the other pieces that still have to be handled before any public revival can happen.

Spice World was released in 1997 and became a hit in cinemas, packed with cameos from Roger Moore, Richard E. Grant, Michael Barrymore and Barry Humphries. Melanie C said the film drew from the band’s own experience, adding that many of the scenes reflected what they were going through at the time they had been promoting for a year before sitting down to write the movie.

One sequence was also removed at the last minute while the film was being edited, after the Gary Glitter segment had to go following his arrest on child pornography charges. Melanie C said that was simply how the group experienced the process at the time, and she said the film will return because its ownership is no longer “all over the place.” For fans waiting for a clean answer, the clearest one is this: Spice World is coming back, but not in time for the anniversary, and the group has not yet said what shape that return will take.
