Jennifer Beals has joined NCIS: New York as a series regular, taking a central role opposite LL Cool J and Scott Caan in CBS’ new crime drama. She will play Assistant Special Agent in Charge Robyn Wells, the director of the NCIS New York field office.
The casting matters now because NCIS: New York is set to launch this fall as part of CBS’ NCIS-branded Tuesday lineup, giving the network another swing at the franchise while Beals steps into one of its key leadership roles. LL Cool J is returning to the NCIS universe through Sam Hanna, who has come home to New York City and the NCIS field office, while Caan plays Nick Schaeffer.
Beals is not the only new face in the lineup. Jacqueline Byers, Shane Harper and Devin Druid were also cast as series regulars, filling out a team that includes NCIS Special Agent Addison “Addy” Ross, NCIS Special Agent Wyatt Hill and NCIS Tech Specialist Sean Sullivan. The series is being produced by CBS Studios and distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution, with Byron Balasco serving as showrunner and R. Scott Gemmill, Balasco, Adam Davidson, Kyle Harimoto, Joe Wilson, LL Cool J and Jason Barrett among the executive producers.
The new assignment also comes with a scheduling wrinkle. Beals is joining a fresh CBS series even as she is also set to recur in the upcoming third season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, a reminder that one cast announcement can carry two jobs at once. For CBS, though, the immediate story is simpler: the network is putting a familiar franchise name back in motion, and Beals is right at the center of the cast built to carry it.
CBS has not given a specific premiere date, but the fall launch window is enough to put Beals’ new role in focus. She is not just joining a franchise entry; she is playing the boss in a series that is being positioned as the next step in NCIS, with her character set to shape the show from the first episode onward.
