AniChe Cellars and Washington Gorge Action Programs are inviting the Columbia Gorge community to the 9th Annual Food For All fundraiser on Friday, August 14, at 4:30 p.m. in Underwood. The evening will be held at AniChe Cellars and will support the WAGAP Food Bank Network, which serves families and individuals across Klickitat and Skamania counties.
The event is meant to do more than raise money. Guests will get a dinner built around the immigrant and Indigenous roots of the Columbia Gorge, paired with local wines, while Isabeau Waia'u Walker performs live music. The program also includes a collaborative live art project by WAGAP's Education & Engagement Coordinator Chris Cazares and an ancestor art installation by Gracen Bookmyer. The fundraiser lands at a moment when WAGAP says the need is growing faster than the support around it. Last year, the network served over 2,300 individuals representing more than 900 households and distributed over 950,000 pounds of food. It operates food banks in Bingen, Goldendale, Klickitat and Stevenson, along with a Mobile Food Bank for isolated communities. Janeal Booren said the network is already seeing a decline in food that is donated or purchased with USDA funds as of July 6, and she said that reduction is pushing more local dollars toward proteins such as chicken and hamburger and toward produce from local growers.
That shortage matters because WAGAP says USDA funds are no longer going to be available for purchasing local produce, even as it tries to keep that food flowing to clients and community events. AniChe Cellars' host role and the lineup of sponsors — Riverview Bank, First Interstate Bank, Willow Wine Cellars, Loop de Loop and Inconnu Wine — give the fundraiser a broader base than a single dinner night. But the core question is simple: whether a local event can help replace a funding stream that has helped keep produce on the table for people who depend on it across the Columbia Gorge.
