Unhinged is now available to play on Netflix, and it is built to make the viewer stop looking away. The interactive horror game turns a player’s real-life phone into Ava’s device, with the flashlight on that smartphone serving as the only way to keep clues and exits visible as the story moves through a locked apartment block.
That is why Unhinged Netflix is showing up in searches now: it is a new, short-form game that asks whether a phone can hold attention instead of splitting it. In about 35 minutes, players can move through the building with little learning curve, grab objects like a screwdriver and a nail gun, and follow the story in first-person as Ava wakes after Claire says the power has gone out and the exit doors are locked.
Zoë Kravitz voices Ava, and the performance is built for quick impact rather than long speeches. She is joined by Sadie Sink as Claire and Troy Baker, who voices both the serial killer and the building super. David Fincher and Zach Cregger helped develop the game before it reached Netflix, giving it a pedigree that matches its ambition to feel more like a tense, playable experiment than a standard tie-in.
Claire is also the biggest trouble in the game, even before the killer gets close. She keeps blowing up Ava’s phone at the worst possible times and offers no real advice, which leaves the player juggling panic, bad timing and a worsening situation while a missing neighbor, a possible search through Ava’s apartment and even a scene with long intestines push the horror further. The killer also nails Ava’s hands to a table, a brutal beat that makes the game’s brief run feel less like a feature and more like a pressure test.
That is the point of Unhinged: it is being presented as a proof of concept for keeping an audience engaged without second-screening, using the very device that usually pulls attention away from the screen. A sequel has not been confirmed, so for now the question is not whether the game sets up a larger franchise, but whether this phone-first format can do enough to make Netflix want another round.
