Powerball released the winning numbers for its Saturday, July 4, 2026 drawing, with the jackpot set at $396 million and a cash value of $180.2 million. The numbers were 17-38-46-50-69, and the red Powerball was 20.
Fernando Cervantes Jr. filed the update as players checked tickets against a prize that had swelled after no one won the top prize on Wednesday. One player from California did take home $1 million in that earlier drawing, but the jackpot kept moving because the top prize went unclaimed.
That is the reason the holiday drawing drew so much attention. Powerball jackpots are hit after players match all five white balls in any order and the red Powerball, with the white balls numbered 1 to 69 and the red ball numbered 1 to 26. Tickets cost $2 per play, and players can add Power Play for $1 for a chance at a multiplier of 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X or 10X.
The game has been around since 1992 and has produced more than 400 jackpot winners, with Indiana, Missouri, Minnesota, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin among the states with the most jackpot-winning tickets. Tickets are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and drawings are held on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday nights. The July 4 numbers answered the immediate question for players, but not the bigger one: whether the jackpot finally landed or rolled on again.
Two players last split a $20 million prize on May 2, the last time someone won the jackpot, which shows how quickly Powerball can swing from modest to massive. If no ticket matched all the numbers on Saturday, the next drawing would move to Monday night, and the prize would keep building.
