Police are investigating a fatal shooting at Hampton Beach after a man was found dead early July 5 in the area of P Street. Officials said the scene remained under active investigation, and portions of P Street, Ashworth Avenue and Ocean Boulevard were expected to stay closed for a period of time while investigators worked there.
The closure notice went out about 6:20 a.m., giving beachgoers and drivers an early sign that the morning would be disrupted before the full scope of the case was clear. Officials said all individuals involved have been identified, and they said there is no known threat to the public.
What remains unanswered is the basic question that matters most: what led to the shooting. Officials have not released that detail, but they said an autopsy is expected to be completed later today by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and additional information will be released as the investigation continues.
