David Bromstad said in June 2026 that he may be done designing in front of America after his HGTV special, a blunt update on whether he will take on another televised design project. The longtime host said it has been so long since he has done any sort of design in front of America that the special felt like a one-time return to the work that made his name.
That matters now because Bromstad is not talking about a distant career choice. He is talking about the future of the public side of his work, and about whether My Lottery Dream Home: David's Happy Ending was the last time viewers watched him build a room from scratch. He said he enjoys hosting My Lottery Dream Home, but added that hosting is not the same as designing, drawing a clear line between the two parts of his television life.
The special grew out of a home he bought in Florida in 2021, and the renovation stretched across about four years before it aired in 2025. Bromstad said the finished space now matches him more closely, with pink throughout, sci-fi inspired touches, and shapes and arches that nod to Greek architecture. The design process was not smooth. He said he had to start over after a disastrous storm destroyed the home, turning what should have been a renovation into a rebuild.
That setback also pushed the story beyond interior design. In December 2025, while promoting My Lottery Dream Home: David's Happy Ending, Bromstad discussed his mental health and substance use journey and said he felt emotionally attached to the home, almost as if he were experiencing what it was going through. He said each stressful layer of the project became a catalyst to his substance use, and later said that once he focused on his mental health, he realized he had nothing to prove to anybody but himself.
That is the friction inside his latest remarks. Bromstad clearly enjoys the hosting side of his HGTV work, but the design side clearly carried a different weight, tied up with recovery, pressure and a house that had to be rebuilt after the storm. He also framed the process as personal growth, saying a trip to Norway marked the beginning of a healthier mindset, and writing in a 2023 Instagram post that hiking Reinebringen and reaching the peak gave him intense clarity. The public version of his story has now moved from renovation to reflection.
For now, he has not confirmed another televised design project. If Bromstad keeps designing, he has left that door only slightly open; if he does not, My Lottery Dream Home: David's Happy Ending may stand as the last time he brought his own taste to television in front of America.
