S.W.A.T. Exiles has found its U.S. home at Starz, which has set the spinoff to premiere on Sept. 25. The 10-episode series will roll out with new episodes every Friday, with streaming available on the Starz app and across Starz’s on-demand platforms.
For Shemar Moore, the move turns a new chapter in the franchise into a date on the calendar. Moore returns as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, and he said he could not be more excited that Starz is bringing the next chapter to U.S. audiences, while also pointing to the show’s reach across major territories worldwide. That matters because the series is not being launched as a local experiment; Sony Pictures Television has already lined up distribution across every major region, from Europe and Latin America to Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and Africa.
The franchise’s next step also comes with a familiar core around Hondo. Jay Harrington is back as Sergeant David “Deacon” Kay, Patrick St. Esprit returns as Commander Robert Hicks, and David Lim is set to appear as Victor Tan in the penultimate episode. The cast also includes Lucy Barrett, Adain Bradley, Zyra Gorecki, Freddy Miyares and Ronen Rubinstein, with Jason Ning serving as showrunner and executive producer.
What sets this off from a standard spinoff launch is the story built into it. Hondo is pulled out of forced retirement after a mission goes sideways and asked to lead a last-chance experimental unit, which gives the title a harsher edge than the glossy rollout around it. That split between the premise and the packaging is the hook: this is a new series, but it is being sold as a consequence of failure, not a clean fresh start.
The international plan is already broader than most U.S.-first launches. Sony has secured sales with Sky GSA, Sky New Zealand, Stan, Rai, Sky Italia, DPG, Tet, Bell Media and Quebecor Content, while the series will also air on Disney+ across Latin America, WOWOW in Japan, LG Uplus in South Korea, AXN in Spain, Portugal, Hong Kong, Taiwan and across Southeast Asia, beIN across the Middle East, North Africa and Türkiye, and Canal+ MNET across the Netherlands, Central and Eastern Europe, Poland, Sub-Saharan Africa and French-speaking African territories. On Sept. 25, the U.S. rollout begins; after that, the weekly Friday schedule is the part viewers can count on.
For Starz, the pickup turns S.W.A.T. Exiles from a franchise offshoot into a fixed arrival date, and for Moore it puts Hondo back at the center of a story that is trying to feel both familiar and newly unstable. The first real test comes on Sept. 25, when the opening episode has to prove that the new unit can carry the weight of the name on its own.
