Borussia Dortmund have made their interest in Benjamin Tahirović clear to Brøndby IF, but the move is not advancing right now. The German club has stepped back from the pursuit for now, even though the 23-year-old remains on its shortlist for a defensive midfield role.
That is why his name is being searched now. Borussia Dortmund are looking for midfield reinforcements this summer, and Tahirović is viewed as a relatively affordable option for a player who has already built up 131 first-team men's appearances and 31 caps for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Patrick Berger reported that Tahirović would cost less than €10 million, a figure that keeps the deal in reach for a club weighing value as much as upside. He joined Brøndby IF in February 2025 for roughly €2.75 million after spells at Roma and Ajax, and his rise in Denmark has put him back into a larger market.
That track record is part of the appeal. Tahirović is a Bosnian international born in Sweden, still only 23, and Brøndby IF signed him on a fee that leaves room for profit if his form continues. For Dortmund, that profile fits the kind of low-risk midfield move clubs chase when the market is tight.
The pause, though, is real. Borussia Dortmund have not walked away, but they have stepped back for now, and that is where the deal stands while Bosnia and Herzegovina’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup runs its course. Brøndby IF are likely to wait before selling, hoping Tahirović can make an impact at the World Cup and push his value higher.
That leaves both sides in a holding pattern. Dortmund still have a name they like, but Brøndby IF have a reason to wait, and Tahirović’s next move may depend less on interest than on whether his tournament form changes the price.
