Michael Weatherly is heading back to NCIS in Season 24, and Tony DiNozzo is getting a season-long arc instead of a one-episode nod. The return puts Weatherly back inside the original series after 11 years away as a regular and two years since he last appeared on the drama.

The character's path explains why this matters so much now. That history gives the Season 24 move real weight. The show is not bringing back a blank-slate guest star. It is bringing back a former lead whose relationship with Ziva, his role as Tali's father, and his ties to the original team all remain part of the story that viewers already know. Weatherly has not been a series regular for 11 years, yet Tony's absence never fully erased him from the NCIS world.
What CBS has not said yet is just as important. There is no episode count for Weatherly's arc, and no debut date inside Season 24. With the season not set to arrive until Fall 2026, the broad shape of the comeback is clear, but the exact moment Tony steps back in still is not.
