Nintendo has added two new routes to Mario Kart World’s Knockout Tour mode in the game’s 1.7.0 update, a surprise change that gives players fresh goals without changing the track list itself. The new routes are Drill Rally and Boomerang Rally, and both can be selected only after a player clears at least one Knockout Tour rally.
That matters because Mario Kart World launched as a Switch 2 title and players have been waiting for something that feels new, not just adjusted. Tom Phillips, IGN’s News Editor, noted that the update expands Knockout Tour rather than adding new tracks, which is the distinction here: Drill Rally runs from Wario Shipyard to Bowser’s Castle, while Boomerang Rally links Salty Salty Speedway to Whistlestop Summit, using six existing courses in each route.
The update also adds a smaller but useful change in Photo Mode, letting players apply stickers they have already collected to pictures they take. In practice, that means the game now gives players a bit more control over how those screenshots look, but it still sits alongside the bigger course-based change rather than replacing it.
The friction for players is obvious. Nintendo has said additional Knockout Tour routes are planned for future updates, but it has not said when they will arrive, and the current patch still leaves the larger request unanswered: all-new tracks. For now, the 1.7.0 update gives Mario Kart World more ways to race through what is already there, and more routes should follow later even if the timetable is still missing.
