An inquest has opened into the death of Paul Flack, the brother of Caroline Flack, after he was found unresponsive at his home in Norwich on 21 June and later died at the Norfolk and Norwich hospital. Coroner Yvonne Blake adjourned the hearing until 23 October while further inquiries are carried out.
Flack was 55, and his death leaves behind his partner and two children. For people searching his name now, the reason is simple: the formal process to establish how he died has started, but the cause is still not clear.
His name was already known to many through his own grief after Caroline Flack died in 2020. He posted a childhood photograph of her on Instagram and wrote: “This will be my last post here. May those who know feel shame for eternity. Love you Caroline.” That tribute remained the final post on his account.
He also appeared with his mother, Christine Flack, and two sisters in the 2021 documentary Caroline Flack: Her Life and Death, which examined Caroline Flack’s life, her mental health struggles and the events leading to her suicide. Caroline Flack, who was 40 when she was found dead in February 2020, had already become the focus of intense public scrutiny after prosecutors moved ahead with an assault charge, despite the Crown Prosecution Service having recommended a caution after an incident with Lewis Burton.
The unanswered part of Paul Flack’s case is the one the coroner has now flagged. He had already died after being found unresponsive, yet Blake said the circumstances could not be fully established without more work. That leaves the inquest with a straightforward job and a difficult gap: to explain what happened between the moment he was found and the conclusion the court must still reach.
For Caroline Flack’s family, Monday’s hearing was another painful marker in a story that has never really stopped. Paul Flack is now gone too, and the next date in court is the one that may begin to show whether there is a clear answer, or whether the final account will remain incomplete.
