Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley are reuniting on a new Hulu project, with the pair set to star in You Deserve to Know, a book adaptation now in development. Dobrev and Wesley will also executive produce the series, which brings them back together after their run on The Vampire Diaries.
The project is based on the 2025 novel by Aggie Blum Thompson and comes from Alex Cooper’s Unwell and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment. Brian Tanen wrote the adaptation, which follows three suburban couples who are next-door neighbors and best friends until one husband is murdered and a trail of secrets begins to surface. Dobrev will play Gwen and Wesley will play Scott, neighbors on opposite sides of the investigation, a setup that gives the reunion a sharper edge than a simple nostalgia play.
For Hulu, the timing matters because the project has only been taken for development, not locked as a full series order. That makes You Deserve to Know a vote of confidence, but not a finished deal, even with two recognizable leads attached. Dobrev and Wesley are joined on the producing side by Tanen, Thompson, Cooper, Matt Kaplan and Mina Lefevre, while Jaiden Kaplan, Dylan Hammalian, Paul Kim and Kendall Boucher are co-executive producing.
The pairing also carries weight because both actors have stayed busy since The Vampire Diaries. Dobrev recently starred in and produced the short film General Admission, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, while Wesley recently wrapped work on the upcoming third season of The Buccaneers and the fifth and final season of Star Trek. The new Hulu title gives both of them another route back to the kind of character-driven drama that made their earlier work so widely watched.
The real question now is not whether the reunion will get attention, but whether Hulu turns this development title into a series. If it does, Dobrev and Wesley will not just be revisiting a familiar screen partnership; they will be stepping into a darker story built around marriage, suspicion and the kind of neighborhood secrets that only become visible after somebody is killed.
