Cara Delevingne has put a sharper edge on a rumor that has followed Amber Heard for years. In a new episode of The Louis Theroux Podcast, Delevingne said she and Heard were “entangled” while Heard was going through her divorce from Johnny Depp.
The timing matters because Delevingne did not leave the exchange at a vague yes or no. When Louis Theroux asked about “the Johnny Depp thing,” she said there was nothing happening at one point, then added that “later, after they divorced, it had, I suppose.” She went further, saying the two women were “close for a long time” before the period she described, and that Heard was “also entangled with other people.”
That answer gives the clearest public frame yet for a relationship that had long been the subject of speculation tied to the Depp-Heard split. Heard and Depp married in 2015 and split in 2016, then went head-to-head in a landmark defamation trial in 2022. Delevingne’s comments now place her account of the relationship inside that already heavily scrutinized timeline, rather than leaving it as off-camera rumor.
But her own wording also leaves room for interpretation. “Entangled” is a broader, looser word than dating, and Delevingne used it after first saying nothing was happening at that point. Theroux pressed the issue by mentioning Depp’s reported jealousy and suggesting he was driven crazy by the idea that Heard might be sleeping with Delevingne, and Delevingne agreed that Depp was “pretty driven crazy by jealousy.” She then answered, “There you go,” when Theroux brought up Elon Musk, which echoes the separate fact that Heard dated Musk until early 2018, but does not pin down a clean start or end date for anything involving Delevingne.
Delevingne also folded the exchange into a wider reflection on how she understood herself and how other people treated that identity. She said Harvey Weinstein once called and asked her, “Are you gay?” and told her she should never be in a relationship with a woman because she would never make it in the industry if people thought she was gay. Delevingne said she “really believed him,” even as she added that, looking back, it was clear very young and that she knew she was gay at about 11 years old.
