MVV Maastricht signed Dylan Timber on Monday to a one-season deal with an option for an extra season, keeping the 26-year-old in Limburg after three years at VVV-Venlo. The club said he will get the chance to show what he can do.
The move is the latest change at MVV, which finished nineteenth last season and has now added four new players, including Lennerd Daneels, Toni Vinogradac and Elias Sierra. For Timber, it is a fresh start after injury problems limited him to three appearances in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie last season.
That is the sharp edge of this signing: MVV is backing a defender whose recent season barely got started. Timber has 36 KKD matches behind him in total, but the club is betting that his run of setbacks does not define what comes next. He came into the professional game in 2021 via Sparta Nijkerk and Jong FC Utrecht, then moved to VVV in 2023, where he stayed active in Limburg before this switch.
Timber also carries a name that already resonates well beyond Maastricht. He is the older brother of Jurriën Timber, who plays for Arsenal in England, and Quinten Timber, who plays for Olympique Marseille in France. Both brothers are Oranje-internationals who previously played in the Netherlands, while Dylan has one Curaçao cap to his name.
What MVV will get week to week is still unclear. The contract gives the club a low-risk way to see whether Timber can stay fit and become a regular part of the side, but the real answer will come from how much football his body allows him to play.
