Anya Taylor-Joy is heading back to TV next month, and the clock is already set. Lucky will open with its first two episodes on July 15, then keep going in weekly drops until the Season 1 finale on August 19.
That matters because Taylor-Joy’s name still carries the kind of reach that turns a release date into a search term. She last made a TV splash with The Queen’s Gambit, one of Netflix’s biggest limited series, and Lucky puts her back in the medium that helped define that moment.
The new project also pairs her with Timothy Olyphant in a crime thriller built for a slow reveal. The seven-episode season gives the show enough room to stretch out, and the launch plan suggests a steady rollout rather than a one-night drop. For viewers, that means the first two installments arrive together, but the story will keep unfolding well into late summer.
There is, though, one detail that complicates the clean read: Lucky is not billed as a limited series. With only seven episodes in the first season, it looks compact, but the absence of that label leaves the door open for more than one run if the show lands well. That makes the premiere date only part of the story; the larger question is whether Lucky is meant to be a one-off or the start of something longer.
Taylor-Joy has kept busy on the film side, from The Gorge last year with Miles Teller to voicing Princess Peach in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, her first feature film of the year. She also has Dune: Part Three ahead, due in theaters on December 18 and opening the same day as Avengers: Doomsday. But for now, the next date that matters is July 15, when Lucky arrives and starts a run that will not end until August 19.
