The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club have traded Ivan Ivan to the Boston Bruins and got Fabian Lysell back in a move that swaps one forward for another. For Colorado, the deal ends a short run for Ivan, who had signed with the club as a free agent on March 5, 2024.
Ivan played 49 games for Colorado and finished with nine points, including five goals and four assists. He also brought a longer track record in the organization, with 169 games for the Eagles and 25 goals and 44 assists before this exchange sent him to Boston.
The move gives the Avalanche a different kind of forward. Lysell, a native of Gothenburg, Sweden, spent the 2025-26 season with the Providence Bruins and produced 42 points in 57 regular-season contests, with 17 goals and 25 assists. He also dressed in one Calder Cup Playoff game, which added to the recent game load that made him a tradeable piece for Boston.
Lysell arrived with more than one layer of résumé. Boston drafted him in the first round, 21st overall, in the 2021 NHL Draft, and he has since logged 12 career NHL games with the Bruins, plus three career points on one goal and two assists. Across 219 regular-season AHL games, he has 163 points, with 57 goals and 106 assists.
The friction in this swap is hard to miss. Colorado had only recently signed Ivan, yet the club moved him after he had already worked his way into 49 NHL games with the Avalanche. That makes the trade less a simple prospect-for-prospect deal than a decision to reset part of the forward depth on both sides.
For now, the cleanest read is that Colorado chose the later-blooming skill of Lysell over keeping Ivan in place. What both teams do with the change will be measured not by the trade itself, but by whether Lysell earns a larger NHL role and whether Ivan finds one in Boston after leaving the organization that gave him his first shot.
