WWE shoved the Night of Champions title picture into overdrive on Friday Night SmackDown, then ended the segment with Oba Femi staring down the wreckage. Cody Rhodes, Sami Zayn, GUNTHER and Jey Uso all crashed into the same ring before the night was over, and the chaos made clear the championship road is now headed straight through Night of Champions.
That is why the show mattered now. SmackDown was not just filling time before the weekend; it was the last hard push into Night of Champions, with the WWE title tilt and the King of the Ring finals both hanging over the card. The company used the segment to put the key players in one place, and Jey Uso was the one who turned the temperature up. He told Rhodes and Zayn he would do them if and when he needed to, then went even further by saying he almost hoped GUNTHER won because he would tap him out “just like a little bitch.”
The exchange had already been sour before GUNTHER spoke. Zayn told Rhodes he may have been a little out of line as special guest referee and said he regretted how it went down, adding that he never wanted any of this. Rhodes answered by saying he was wrestling for the WWE championship in a country where he is beloved, under a stipulation that favors him over the champion. He also name-dropped Kevin Owens and said at least Owens would stab you in the front. Zayn fired back that Rhodes should be thanking him for still being champion, but that he would not be champion by Night of Champions.
GUNTHER then pulled the spotlight back to the larger bracket. He called Zayn a non-factor as a wrestler and said he would be the one facing the King of the Ring winner at SummerSlam. That line left the picture deliberately unfinished, because the winner was never named, only the path. For now, the message was simple: GUNTHER is already talking past Night of Champions, while Rhodes and Zayn are still trying to settle who owns the moment in front of them.
Then the segment broke apart. A brawl followed, and when it settled, Jey Uso and Rhodes were left standing as Oba Femi made his presence felt. Rhodes held the title over his head right in front of him, a stare-down that looked less like a tease and more like a warning shot. It was the kind of ending that does not close a story so much as announce the next one.
Elsewhere on the same show, Solo Sikoa’s corner was falling apart in plain sight. Earlier in the night, Tama and Talla told him they were done and walking out, and Solo answered by saying he absolutely hates the entire family, from Jacob Fatu to The Usos to The OCT. He tried to pull LA Knight into an alliance built on shared hatred of The Bloodline and a common desire to take them out, but Knight refused and said his heart does not pump purple piss for Sikoa and his MFTs. The split only deepened the feeling that SmackDown was clearing the board before the next major turn.
By the end of the night, WWE had done what it needed to do: give Night of Champions a clearer title path and leave one fresh confrontation hanging in the air. Rhodes still has the championship, Zayn is still circling it, GUNTHER is already looking beyond it, and Jey Uso sounds ready to hit whoever is left standing. The next checkpoint is Night of Champions, but the bigger collision may be the one Oba Femi just walked into.
