Mila Kunis says her marriage to Ashton Kutcher works because the hard part was already behind them. In a recent appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Kunis said she reconnected with Kutcher when she was 27 and that, by then, there was no getting to know each other all over again.
That history, she said, is what makes the relationship feel simple now. Kunis said the foundation of their life together is built on respect because she knew him when she was 14 and he was 19, and he knew her through the years that followed. “There was nothing to hide,” she said. “So it makes it really easy.”
The detail matters because Kunis was not describing a glossy love story built on instant certainty. She was describing something more durable: a relationship shaped by years of working side by side on That ’70s Show, then later finding each other again after both had changed. She said, “I married my best friend,” and framed that long history as the reason the marriage feels low-friction now.
Even so, Kunis did not present the relationship as effortless in the naive sense. She said both she and Kutcher had trust issues, and her fear was that someone could take advantage of the situation. She said that was his fear too. The difference, she suggested, was that time had already stripped away the need for performance. There were no hidden secrets to unpack, no fresh introduction to manage, only two people who had known each other through different versions of themselves.
Kutcher and Kunis became engaged in February 2014 and were married in July 2015. They now share daughter Wyatt, 11, and son Dimitri, 9. Kunis said part of growing up is constantly evolving, and that she never wants either of them to stop changing their minds. That is the real answer buried in her comments: the marriage works not because nothing has shifted, but because both have made room for change while staying anchored to a shared past.
