Central Florida is headed for another hot Tuesday, with highs pushing into the mid-to-upper 90s and a Heat Index that could climb to 100-105. Afternoon thunderstorms, the kind that usually break the heat, will be hard to find.
Jonathan Kegges, who covers weather for WKMG across TV and digital platforms, said the chance of afternoon storms is only around 20%, leaving much of Central Florida with a long stretch of dry, sticky heat. That is why the search for relief feels so urgent today: the weather is behaving like summer, but without the usual daily rain that helps take the edge off.
The setup behind it is a familiar one, though stronger than what people might expect in a normal summer pattern. An upper-level high-pressure system is helping lock in the heat and keeping rain chances uncharacteristically low, which is why Tuesday looks hotter than comfortable and drier than many afternoons in Florida usually do.
There is a small shift ahead. By the end of the work week, rain chances start to tick back up, which should give the region a better shot at a few more storms. But that relief may not last long. A new chunk of high pressure builds for the weekend, lowering rain chances again and helping temperatures heat up once more. For now, the question is not whether Central Florida gets hot again. It already has. The question is how much of the week it gets before the next round of rain can finally interrupt it.
