BYU football turned its busiest on-campus recruiting weekend into immediate momentum, landing three commitments for its 2027 class as Jaxson Rex, James Thorley and Kamoni Adams all pledged after official visits wrapped up.
The additions pushed BYU to nine commitments in the cycle and gave the program a lift at three different spots. Rex, a safety from San Clemente, California, chose BYU over UCLA Bruins. Thorley, a kicker and punter from Burke, Virginia, came in as a five-star specialist from Kohl’s Specialist camps after training with the Hammer Kicker Academy and selected Brigham Young University over Colgate.
Thorley’s commitment on June 21, 2026, carried the kind of family note that tends to stick in recruiting. He said he was blessed to make the call and thanked his Heavenly Father, his family, his coaches and everyone who supported him along the way. For BYU, it was the first clear sign that a packed weekend on campus was producing more than visits and handshakes.
Kamoni Adams made that point harder to ignore. The cornerback from Marietta, Georgia, became the third player at his position to verbals to BYU in the 2027 cycle and did it weeks after an official visit to Maryland, despite reporting offers from ACC, Big 12 and SEC programs. He is listed at 6-foot-0 and 170 pounds and has been clocked at 10.7 in the 100-meter dash, traits that help explain why he was rated the 76th-ranked cornerback nationally in the 247Sports Composite for the 2027 cycle.
The friction for BYU is also the reason the weekend matters. The Cougars did not just collect local interest or fallback pledges; they beat out UCLA Bruins for Rex, Colgate for Thorley and a broader national field for Adams. That is how a recruiting weekend changes the shape of a class. BYU is now up to nine commitments in the 2027 recruiting class and holds the 76th-ranked class in the Composite, but the unanswered question is how much farther that run can go after a weekend that already delivered three new names.
