Destiny 2 glitch fix coming next week as Bungie tells players to enjoy it

Bungie said on June 16 that it is working on a fix for a Destiny 2 damage glitch that can let players stack seasonal Artifact mods and hit bosses with absurd force. For now, it is telling players to go ahead and use it.

The timing matters because Destiny 2’s final update landed on June 9, and the bug has already turned into one of the game’s stranger live-service moments. Bungie posted on X that Guardians were doing near infinite damage to bosses thanks in part to unintended Artifact perk stacking, and said a fix would likely arrive next week.

The glitch appears to work by letting multiple copies of the same seasonal Artifact mods stay active at once. That kind of stacking can make players incredibly powerful, and in some combinations it can one-shot bosses. Bungie has also disabled Artifacts in the Crucible and Gambit PVP modes, limiting the problem where player-vs-player balance matters most.

That response leaves Bungie in an awkward middle ground. The studio is acknowledging a bug that breaks combat in Destiny 2, but it is also openly inviting players to have fun with it before the fix arrives. In its message, Bungie said the videos it had seen were “quite hilarious to watch” and told players to “beat up on Atheon” and “destroy some bosses,” a rare public nod from a developer that a live-game exploit can be tolerated for a short window.

The broader backdrop is that the Monument of Triumph update was meant to be Destiny 2’s final patch, a last content drop meant to celebrate the game and the people who played it. Bungie has no plans to continue the franchise at this time, but it still intends to maintain the game for now. That makes the coming fix more than a routine balance pass. It is part of how Bungie manages a game it has finished expanding but not yet abandoned.

For players, the open question is not whether the bug will go away. Bungie has already said it will. The question is how much damage the studio will let players do before next week’s fix lands, and whether the exploit remains a harmless finale or becomes the last memorable mistake of Destiny 2’s live run.
