Hannah Brown says a major renovation has turned the first year of her marriage into a stretch of temporary living, with she and Adam Woolard now out of their Nashville house for seven months. Brown, who married Woolard last year in France, said the project has gone far beyond what she expected when they first started tearing into the home.
That is why Brown is talking about it now. She is in the middle of a renovation that has affected daily life, marriage routines and, by her own account, the timing of family planning. The pair bought a 120-year-old home in Nashville and then found mold during the work, pushing the project into a more complicated phase than a simple refresh.
Brown said the process has involved choosing finishes and materials, and it has become a lesson in how one home improvement can keep expanding. She said she thought they were doing a mini renovation, but it snowballed. Now the couple is living elsewhere, borrowing other people’s space when they can and asking friends whether they need house-sitters just so they can stop by.
Even so, Brown did not describe the experience as a disaster. She said the renovation has been really fun, but also stressful, and added that going through it in the first year of marriage is probably not the easiest thing to do together. The friction is built into the project itself: what started as a practical upgrade has turned into a long, drawn-out test of patience, budgets and decision-making.
That strain has not changed Brown’s view of the relationship. She said she is glad she is doing the renovation with Woolard and that the shared project has made them feel more connected. Brown has also said they have begun the family-planning process, but are not rushing into parenthood yet and want to be a little settled before trying to have a baby.
The unresolved part is the simplest one. Brown has said the couple is out of the house for seven months, but has not said when the renovation will end or when they will move back into the Nashville home. Until that happens, the story is not about a finished makeover. It is about two newlyweds waiting out a project that keeps asking for more time.
