MorningStar Farms is voluntarily recalling select frozen Buffalo Chik'n Nuggets and Hot & Spicy Sausage Patties after customer complaints raised the possibility of plastic contamination. The recall was announced on June 18 and covers products sold across the United States, Puerto Rico and Costa Rica.

The packages tied to the frozen food recall are MorningStar Farms Buffalo Chik'n Nuggets in 10.5-ounce bags with UPC 000 28989 10110 5 and Better If Used Before dates of July 7 and 8, 2027, along with MorningStar Farms Hot & Spicy Sausage Patties in 8-ounce bags with UPC 000 28989 10094 8 and Better If Used Before dates of July 5, 6 and 7, 2027. The products were distributed to grocery stores nationwide, and no other MORNINGSTAR FARMS brand products are affected.

Consumers who bought the recalled products should not eat them. They are being told to discard the packages and contact the company for a full refund. MorningStar Farms Consumer Affairs can be reached at 800-962-0120 or by text at 877-453-5837 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET.

The awkward part is that the recall followed customer complaints, even as a Mars spokesperson said the company moved quickly once it learned of the problem and has already addressed the issue and enhanced quality control procedures. The spokesperson also said no injuries have been reported in connection with the recall. What remains unanswered is how many packages may be affected, but for shoppers the immediate instruction is plain: check the UPC, check the date and do not eat the product if it matches the recall.
