Evacuation orders tied to the Saw Creek wildfire have been expanded, and people in the affected area must leave immediately. The expanded order now covers properties in the Village of Lytton and Electoral Area “I,” while a separate evacuation order is also in place for Klahkamich IR 17 and Kitzowitz IR 20.
The move matters because it turns a fast-moving wildfire emergency into an immediate departure order for several named areas at once. The Thompson-Nicola Regional District said the orders were issued because of immediate danger to life safety, which leaves no room for delay once a property falls inside the evacuation zone.
Residents can self-register through the Evacuee Registration & Assistance tool to receive Emergency Support Services, or report to the Kamloops ESS Reception Centre at 1655 Island Parkway, Kamloops, BC, at McArthur Island Park. The order’s expansion beyond the Village of Lytton to include Electoral Area “I” is the clearest sign that the danger has widened rather than settled. Separate orders for Klahkamich IR 17 and Kitzowitz IR 20 add another layer of urgency, and the district is also pointing evacuees to wildfire information, provincial fire bans in BC, DriveBC for travel and highway updates, and services for anxiety, depression or other mental health challenges.
What remains unsettled is how long the orders will stay in place. For now, the direction is simple and absolute: if a property is under evacuation order, people are at risk and must leave, because the next update may only matter if they are already out.
