Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 has recast Eleven, handing the part to Brooklyn Davey Norstedt instead of Millie Bobby Brown. The animated series has also given every returning Stranger Things character a new voice actor, making the cast shift a defining choice rather than a one-off change.
That is drawing attention now because Brown has been the face and voice of Eleven across five seasons of Stranger Things, and for many viewers she remains the character’s definitive version. The new series is set between seasons 2 and 3, so the production is leaning into younger versions of the characters rather than trying to preserve the live-action performances exactly.
Eric Robles said the team wanted performers who could genuinely capture the sound and energy of the younger characters, and that bringing in anyone from the original cast would mean older voices. He said the goal was to keep the youthful quality that the Duffer Brothers liked in those early seasons, along with the spontaneous words and sentences that came out of the kids’ mouths. In that frame, the recast is not presented as a break from the original show so much as a technical choice about matching animated characters to their age.
Still, the decision lands with more force because Brown is so closely tied to Eleven that any replacement feels bigger than a routine casting update. Brooklyn Davey Norstedt may better fit the younger sound the animated series wants, but the change also means viewers will hear a version of Eleven that is separated from the performance many fans associate with the role most strongly.
Netflix has already renewed Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 for season 2, so the casting approach is not a one-episode experiment. If the animated series continues on that path, the unanswered question is not whether Eleven will sound different, but whether the show will keep treating that distance from the original cast as part of its identity.
