A new Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer dropped on Wednesday, and it puts Tom Holland’s Peter Parker in the middle of a fight he does not seem able to control. He is thrown around by Scorpion, crashes through a set of signs in New York, and then says he is “totally out of control” as his eyes turn black.
That is the kind of image that makes a trailer travel fast. The footage also brings back Zendaya, Mark Ruffalo and Jon Bernthal, while Sadie Sink and Tramell Tillman join the cast, giving fans a first look at how this story may widen beyond Peter alone. For anyone searching Holland today, the reason is simple: this is the first fresh look at Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and it may be the last trailer before release.
The trailer leans hard on Peter’s confusion. He asks, “What is happening to me?” and later says, “I’m losing my mind.” After the fight, he watches MJ and Ned on his phone, and the detail lands because they are talking about graduating from MIT while he is struggling to understand what has changed in him. Peter also slaps devices onto his wrists, then appears to produce web fluid organically, a shift that suggests his body is doing something new rather than relying only on gear.
That is where the trailer gets complicated. Peter goes to Empire State University, where Bruce Banner is teaching, and asks whether Banner found a way to suppress mutating DNA. Banner shows off a device that appears to calm his own Hulk urges, then warns, “If you see me with this off, run.” When Peter asks whether the bad parts can be removed while the good parts stay, Banner pushes back with a question of his own: how does anyone decide which parts of nature are good or bad? The exchange frames Peter’s change as more than a power upgrade. It is a problem of control, and the trailer does not say whether the black eyes, the organic web fluid or the loss of control are signs of evolution or damage.
It also does not hide its larger threat. Metzger, played by Tramell Tillman, says the characters are facing “a threat we can’t control. One we can’t even see,” while the trailer hints at a huge wave coming from Roosevelt Isla and shows Sadie Sink’s character in Peter Parker’s lab, where she appears able to move tanks with her mind. The film is still keeping its center hidden. For now, the clearest thing on screen is Peter Parker in trouble, and the trailer suggests the real question is not whether he is getting stronger, but whether anyone can tell the difference between power and a condition that needs to be stopped.
