A septic tank truck carrying 100 gallons of sewage overturned on southbound Interstate 5 in Sacramento, spilling waste across the lanes and shutting down part of the highway. The driver was taken to hospital with major injuries.
The crash drew a hazmat cleanup crew and left two lanes closed while crews worked through a spill that was expected to take hours. For drivers on the road, that meant a sudden stop on a major route; for the people handling the cleanup, it meant dealing with sewage on the pavement before traffic could move again.
The incident matters because overturned trucks often trigger road closures, but this one was more than a routine cargo spill.
