Be The People launched in New York on June 11, 2026, with more than 50 leaders and organizations joining its National Leadership Council and taking on roles in a new 10-year effort to connect Americans with ways to help solve problems in their communities.
The launch matters now because the effort is aimed at millions of Americans and is built to keep growing. Its backers say more opportunities will be announced in the weeks and months ahead, with tens of thousands expected as the initiative begins to take shape.
Elena Dussaq said the leaders joining the council see people stepping up every day to strengthen their communities, and she framed the project as a direct answer to the idea that Americans are too divided to do big things together. She said leaders from every corner of American life are coming together around a shared belief that the country’s best days are ahead, not behind it.
That belief is the point of Be The People. The effort is designed as a long-term call to action that connects groups already working on community problems with people ready to help, while the National Leadership Council helps shape and steward the work. Each member is expected to play a leadership role based on the capabilities they bring and the problems they are most passionate about solving, which gives the coalition a flexible structure instead of a single top-down model.
Be The People also plans a problem-solving digital platform, major cultural events and a summer-long series of activations across the country. Many council members are setting ambitious long-term moonshot goals of their own, and the real test will be whether that mix of national attention and local action turns into the tens of thousands of opportunities the group says are coming next.
