Tubi has set July 3 for the release of Summer's Last Resort, a tropical comedy built around a family vacation that goes off course. The streamer also dropped the trailer on June 16, giving viewers the first look at Sophia Bush, Jerry O'Connell and Violet McGraw in the film.

The timing matters because the movie is headed to a free streamer, not theaters or a subscription service, which makes the release date the main point of entry for anyone waiting to see it. Bush plays Milly, a single mother and the romantic lead, while McGraw plays Summer, her teenage daughter, and O'Connell plays Glenn, Milly's new boyfriend.

That setup is where the movie gets its friction. Glenn is not just Milly's boyfriend; he is also the vice principal at Summer's school, and that puts family and school life on the same collision course. Summer spends the vacation trying to break the couple up, which turns the story into more than a simple rom-com runaround.

Bush's casting also gives the project a built-in audience. She left Chicago PD after four seasons and later appeared in Good Sam, This Is Us, Love Victor and Grey's Anatomy, so Summer's Last Resort gives her another lead role on screen in a film that is being positioned as both a comedy and a romance. Emily Andras wrote the movie, and Clara Alexandrova directed it, with Tim Rozon and Clara Alexandrova also among the cast.

For viewers, the answer is straightforward: the trailer is already out, and Summer's Last Resort arrives on Tubi on July 3. The only real question left is whether Summer succeeds in splitting Milly and Glenn before the vacation ends.
