The UFC has released Thiago Moisés from its roster, ending a 16-fight run for the 31-year-old Brazilian lightweight who went 8-8 in the promotion. Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com reported on Thursday that Moisés was among the latest roster removals.
The move closes the book on a career that began in 2018, when Moisés earned his UFC place through Dana White’s Contender Series. He leaves with wins over King Green, Alexander Hernandez and Michael Johnson, even though he lost three of his last four fights and finished on back-to-back defeats.
That mix of results helps explain why his name is now on the wrong side of a roster cut. The UFC is bringing in more fighters this summer from Dana White’s Contender Series, and with about 700 athletes under contract and only 43 events a year, turnover is a constant part of the business.
Moisés is not the only recent exit. The UFC has also moved on from Cameron Smotherman, Ariane Carnelossi and Matt Schnell, part of a wider roster churn that tends to follow the arrival of new talent. Even so, Moisés stands out because his record was not empty of quality. A fighter can be 8-8 and still carry wins that usually buy more time.
Whether the UFC brings him back later is unresolved, but that remains possible under the way the promotion manages its roster. For now, Moisés leaves as a veteran with proven wins, a.500 UFC record and no place on the current lineup.
