Hamad Medjedovic seized the first set from Ugo Humbert 6-2 in just 25 minutes on day four at Queen's, turning the last match of the night on Andy Murray Arena into the sharpest upset of the session. The 22-year-old closed it out when Humbert drove a forehand wide after a 12-shot rally.
That mattered because Humbert was the more experienced player on court, yet Medjedovic handled the opening exchanges with the cleaner pace and the stronger finish. In a match that began with live coverage at the top of the page, the Serbian's early lead made the night feel less like a routine late finish and more like a contest suddenly tilted by one set.
Medjedovic's start also sat alongside other results on a busy day four at Queen's. Jiri Lehecka was knocked out by qualifier Rinky Hijikata after Lehecka had taken the first set 6-4 and Hijikata forced a deciding set, while Tommy Paul beat Botic Van de Zandschulp 7-6, 6-3 and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina defeated Corentin Moutet 6-4, 6-3 to reach the quarter-finals.
The unresolved part is the only one that really matters now: whether Medjedovic's fast start became a full upset or Humbert used his greater experience to drag the match back. For the moment, the first set belongs to the 22-year-old, and it was taken with enough speed to put the night's final game firmly on edge.
