Claude AI appeared to stop working on Tuesday as users reported a spike in errors and Anthropic said it was investigating elevated problems across its service. By early afternoon ET, the complaints had passed 2,000 on Downdetector, pointing to a disruption that was broad enough to hit more than one part of Claude at once.

Downdetector showed more than 2,000 reports at 1:27 p.m. ET, or 10:27 a.m. PT, and the timing suggested the outage was developing quickly enough to push users toward public trackers while they waited for a fix.
The unanswered question was what caused the elevated errors and whether service had fully recovered. Anthropic had not explained the reason for the disruption in the available update, and the company was still investigating as the reports mounted. For now, the facts point to a service problem that was wide, visible and still not fully explained on Tuesday.
