Downdetector.com, which tracks outages by collecting status reports from multiple sources, showed the problem building through the morning as users continued to flag trouble with the service.
That made Character.AI’s own response the point of friction in the story. While users were reporting problems, the platform’s status checker said, “We are currently investigating this issue.” It was a short message, but it acknowledged that the company was seeing the same disruption that users were already describing.
