Scotland opened its World Cup of Darts campaign with a shutout, beating Norway 8-0 to move into the quarter-finals. Gary Anderson and Cameron Menzies did not drop a leg as they booked a meeting with Ireland.
For Scotland, the result matters because it was not just a win but a clean sweep in a knockout event where every missed chance can tilt a tie. Gary Anderson was the named figure in that advance, and the scoreline put Scotland into the last eight without any need for a rescue act late on.
The quarter-final picture was completed in Frankfurt after the second-round matches. Ireland beat Poland 8-5, England defeated Spain 8-5, Northern Ireland edged Belgium 8-7, Latvia beat France 8-7, the Netherlands got past the Czech Republic 8-6 and Germany saw off Sweden 8-6. Scotland’s next test is Ireland, while England will face Wales, Northern Ireland will meet Latvia and the Netherlands will take on Germany.
There was still one sharp note in an otherwise comfortable night for some of the leading sides. Luke Humphries said England’s display was only “probably about six out of 10” even after he and Luke Littler beat Cristo Reyes and Jose Justicia 8-5 to move on, a reminder that the numbers on the board do not always tell the whole story. England entered the tournament in the second round, as did Scotland, and the next stage will leave less room for recovery.
The structure now gets tighter. The tournament concludes on Sunday with 15-leg quarter-finals and semi-finals before a 19-leg final, so Scotland’s shutout will count for little unless Anderson and Menzies can repeat it against Ireland. For now, Scotland Results point to a team that started fast and did so in a way that few knockout wins manage: by never letting Norway into the match at all.
