Atlanta placed Ronald Acuña Jr. on the 10-day injured list with a strained left hamstring and recalled first baseman Rowdy Tellez, a move that changes the Braves’ roster immediately. Tellez is expected to be used only as a pinch-hitter or possibly as a designated hitter because Matt Olson is already at first base.
The timing matters because Acuña is one of Atlanta’s most dynamic players, and his absence forces the Braves to adjust on the fly in the outfield and at the bottom of the lineup. Mauricio Dubón and Eli White are likely to see more time in the outfield while Tellez fills a far narrower role than the one that comes with a regular first-base job.
The injury is not believed to be serious, but it still sends Acuña back to the injured list for a second time this season because of the same left hamstring. That is the detail Atlanta cannot ignore, even if the club expects a short-term absence rather than a long one.
For Tellez, the recall is useful but limited. With Olson holding first base, there is no path to everyday work in the field, which means Atlanta is bringing him back mainly for bat-first insurance while the club waits to see how long Acuña needs before returning to the active roster.
