Ryan Glover has completed a move from Barnet to League One side Stockport County, ending a two-year spell in which he became one of the club’s most important players. The 25-year-old leaves after 94 appearances, 14 goals and 20 assists.
His departure matters now because Barnet are losing a winger who was central to their return to the Football League and to their ninth-place finish in League Two. Glover joined from Aldershot Town in the summer of 2024 and made his debut at home to Southend United in the opening game of the 2024/25 season.
He was not a slow-burn signing. Glover scored his first Barnet goal a week later in a 7-0 win over Tamworth, adding two assists in the same match, and went on to score eight times in Barnet’s title-winning campaign. He appeared in all but one game that season, then started all 46 league fixtures in Barnet’s first year back in the EFL.
That record is why Barnet’s description of his time at the club carries weight. The winger scored against Sutton United, found the net in both fixtures against Yeovil Town and both meetings with Oldham Athletic, and also got his first EFL goal in a 2-1 win away at Crewe Alexandra. He added goals in a 2-1 win over Accrington Stanley, away at Bristol Rovers and in Barnet’s 3-2 victory over Oldham Athletic at The Hive.
Barnet’s praise for Glover is backed by the numbers, but his exit also shows how quickly a key player can be moved on once a higher-level club comes calling. The club said he was one of their great success stories, praised his professionalism and said they understood why he wanted to go to the next level. They also said supporters would miss him, and that they would wish him well.
Glover leaves with back-to-back Player of the Season awards, a return to the Football League on his record and a place in Barnet’s recent climb. What comes next is the part Barnet cannot answer: when he makes his Stockport debut, and how quickly he fits into League One, will now be the first thing watched.
